BS5839 Part 1:2002
The updated code of practice has been released and now all new systems, modifications and servicing must comply with the new requirements:

Updated duties include daily visual checks, log book house keeping, false alarm limitations, free space and access, nominated responsible person, system modification procedure
The fire precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997
All places of work must have in place a fire risk assessment (even if they have a "Fire Certificate"). The assessment must be reviewed annually and any recommendations must be implemented

Disability Discrimination Act 1995: Part 3
As of the 1st October 2004, anyone providing a service, goods or facilities to the public, must make "reasonable adjustments" to accommodate disabled people. Items to consider are :

Halon Gas - EC Regulation 2037/2000
From the 31st December 2003 all Halon gas should have been removed and replaced with an alternative type of fire extinguishant or early detection system.
Also, all rooms protected by a gas extinguishant system must have an annual room pressure test to certify that the room can contain the gas long enough to extinguish a fire
